Day 120 - Ogre

Sketchbook pro symmetry mode joy. Kind of reminds me of the early designs of Mulgarath, the ogre I animated on The Spiderwick Chronicles (designed by Carlos Huante and modelled by Gio Nakpil). But with some strange looking pork scarf thing. I don't know. Next!

Day 119 - Sci-fi Clown

I'll be honest with all two of you who may look at this blog - this one actually freaks me out a little. It moved from Sci-fi samurai guy, to Sci-fi clown without me noticing till it was done. I've no idea what  made it suddenly feel that way, but its in the face. It doesn't help that it looks like he's sporting a toilet round his neck. Carry on, McDuff.

Day 118 - Alien Vessel

A pretty flat zbrush design, which I went into with no idea what I was planning to do. I liked the shape enough to not let it go, and mashed it around in Photoshop trying to make something work. Excuse the god awful BG integration, but it needed something back there. Even the filmic cliched lens flare gets a look in on this one. Night-night.

Day 117 - Samurai

Quick as balls sketch tonight. I'd like to stick some colour or value on this at some point, but for the sake of sleep and sanity, this'll do.

Day 116 - Anxious

Continued on with an abandoned sketch from yesterday. It's still wanting, but I'm glad I pursued it. Another unimaginative title, but he looks quite anxious, so the title is. Alternatives welcomed.

Day 115 - Alieyawn

Puntastic, I know. Generic alien guy, apologies. Brain too tired to be inventive. Must. Sleep.

Day 114 - Mark

Inspired by my lovely friend Mark, after he grudgingly posed for an ipad mirror pic. Incidentally, this looks NOTHING like him.

Day 112 - Olenna Tyrell

Dame Diana Rigg in her role on Game of Thrones as Olenna Tyrell currently. Not much of a likeness, but tried to make it a quick study.

Day 111 - Androgyginge

It's just plain silly. Traditional watercolour with photoshop level adjust. And what's up with the shirts, stripes an' all right now? Will attempt to mix it up more this week.

Day 109 - Textural study

Found a cool textural brush in Procreate, and doodled away. No reference, so as a more realistic exploration it's a little off. I do like her neck though.

Day 108 - Befuddled

Like the title and not much else. The sad results of a rush job.

Day 107 - Judge

Kind of a Moebius-like Judge from another time. Symmetry mode in Sketchbook Pro with some photoshop adjustments.

Day 106 - Space Monkey

Bit rushed today, but hey, it's meant to be a sketch, so BACK OFF!
Dum de daaa.

Day 105 - Nature Girl

Lots wrong, a little right, etc, etc.

Day 104 - Elvish

I've no idea. Looks like a strange Santa lookalike. And elf-like. Mixed. And annoyed.

Day 103 - Studio Guy

Having fun with the ink brush in procreate.

Day 102 - Treehouse

Traditional drawing, photographed then digitally painted. It needs a character in it, but that's not going to happen, so engage imaginations, all.

Day 101 - Simple

This was surely the day to have done something a little more interesting, with a knowing wink to the viewer, a great tribute to Room 101. Instead of those dizzy heights of entertainment and multi-layered, symbolism infused joy, I give you my very fast doodle, which has no meaning whatsoever (Jolene - feel free to interject). There.

Day100 - Commuter No.6

Landmark day, as Larissa and I hit 100 pieces each done so far this year. Yoiks! Long way to go, but happy to still be going, and hopefully learning something along the way. Well done, partner in crime. Check my wife's beautiful work in the link to the right.

Day 99 - Back Packer

Speed and value exercise today. That's it.

Day 98 - Good Doggie

The beastie I started the other day. Heavy directional blur to disguise the dopey pose ...

Day 97 - Rock Chick circa 1985

Another simple sketch which ended up taking FAR too long. Honestly, this should have been a 20 minute deal, but ended up being almost 3 hours, which is madness. A possible third of that time was fucking around with the hands, redrawing, redrawing. Oi. Done now. Still a bit pants, but done.

Day 96 - Smiler

Heavily inspired by a very cool Anthony Jones sketch, and somehow a little of the Bullworth movie poster crept in too. My wife is quite disturbed by this one, though I can't for the life of me understand why.

Day 95 - Commuter no.5

Started on a monster dog thing on the train, but was immediately distracted by this old guy, with his fantastic fisher and friend style hat. I think he noticed me some way into the journey, but had the good grace to act as if he hadn't so I could finish up. He came up to me as we got to our final stop and loved the sketch (thankfully) which I'll send along to him tonight. Monster dog thing will have to wait for another day.

Day 94 - Notebook Guy

A quickie biro sketch in a notebook at work, which is utterly design-sense boring, but I liked it enough to give it a fast paint over in Procreate. I will do better, honest.

Day 93 - Mech tank thingie

Another first, and this stuff is definitely not my strong suit, so worth a stab. Pretty derivative, but hopefully I learned something from the experience.

Day 91 - Fused Phones

Back to Zbrush for the first time in a while, and the realisation that my Wacom tablet had been busted for a while, and I hadn't been having any pressure sensitivity love. New drivers installed and what a difference. How I didn't notice before now is beyond me - I think I chose to believe user error was to blame for the oddness/lack of responsiveness of tools in zbrush.

Anyway, the short version being that this was more fun and less struggle (3hrs, still too long) than previous efforts, although it does look far too similar to the Asian guy I'd posted a while back.
 It's not the same model.
Fact.
